About Me

Devin is either 8 or 9 here. He already knew then he wanted 1st place. ( See where he has his foot on top of the 1st place)

My name is Devin Sobay. I started playing Judo when I was 6. My mom tells me that I needed to release my energy so I would be good at school. I played soccer at the time but not all year round. I have always been tall and my mom knew that it needed to be a sport that also would use my height, strength and weight. I did try Tang Soo Do with my sister but I had a hard time standing still to learn the forms. I just wanted to play!!! So a customer of hers told her about Judo. I got to basically wrestle with another boy. She knew I would love that and she was right. I took to Judo from the start. I did not start to compete though till I was about 8. That first tournament made me  realize how much I wanted to win and compete. Then in the year 2007  I got my first experience with Judo at a national level and this is when I knew I wanted more out of Judo, to be an Olympian.

I’m 14 years old now. I live in Wichita Falls and I attend Bright Ideas Charter School. I am still playing the sport of Judo. I am currently ranked #1 in the nation in my age and weight division. My goal is to compete in the Olympic Games. In order to be ready and qualified, I must compete in as many state, national and international tournaments as possible. Competing at this level requires funds for travel, hotel and other expenses. To help with these expenses, I’m asking friends, family and members of the community for contributions. You can donate by sending a check or money order for any amount to:
